LCCOA is thankful for those who offer their time and talents to help with services and programming. The following is a list of volunteer opportunities that may be available. Please call Director, Betsy Griffin, (252) 527-1545 if you have an interest in volunteering with us.
Staffs the reception desk at the main entrance of the Kinston site. Responsibilities include greeting those entering the building, providing information and customer service related to basic services for older adults.
Delivers meals to homebound seniors weekly or monthly. Responsibilities include navigation, driving, and interaction with clients as an assurance of wellbeing.
Assists nutrition managers with the delivery of our group lunch program. Responsibilities may range from serving meals, coordinating service delivery and/or sanitation tasks before and after meal service.
Calls homebound seniors weekly to insure they are well and safe. Provides support and compassion to reduce loneliness and isolation.
Advises Medicare beneficiaries on details of their health insurance. Requires completion of official Department of Insurance training program.
Enhances senior center programming through sharing of skills and knowledge in a group-lead activity. Plans, executes, and leads a regularly scheduled activity weekly or monthly.
Provides assistance with season, annual, or one-time events. Responsibilities may include decoration, hospitatlity, and communication with intended audience.
Supports staff and other volunteers in executing senior center activities. Responsibilities include room arrangement prior to activity, clean-up after activity, and other grounds maintenance issues as identified.
Meets at least quarterly to participate in the planning of senior center activities. (Participation in senior center programs is preferred.) Responsibilities include evaluation of senior center services and contribution to service development.
Serves on the governing body of the non-profit agency which provides several aging services in Lenoir County through grants and donations. Attends meetings of the board and contributes to agency governance in agreement with the bylaws.
Meets quarterly with the regulatory agency of aging services to advocate for the interests of older adults in their county. Informs regional decisions around aging service development and delivery.
Attends several meetings at the State and Regional levels to identify issues related to the interests of older adults and to advocate for positive change in laws and policy.
